I studied Wah Lum Northern Praying Mantis Fung Fu / and Shaolin Kempo Karate at the Villari’s in Waltham, MA, in the 1980’s. In fact the "dragon" is but a kind of imaginary animal that exists only in the mind of the Chinese people. It is imagines to have the body of a snake, the claws of an eagle, and the horns of a deer. The techniques of the Dragon Form are movements simulating those of this animal.
Like a hermit keeping himself away from other people. The crane is sharp-sighted. It walks leisurely and it takes advantage of it's enemy's loss of concenration to launch a quick beak-dart at the weakness of it's enemy.
Can swim in water though without fins. It can retract and dart forward for a distance of more than ten feet solely because it has a lenghthy and elastic body supported by flexible joints inside.
